Over Dalkeith Stables

We are a small family riding stables and livery yard in the Southern tip of Perthshire, bordering Fife and Clackmannanshire. We are a fully licenced and insured riding school offering BHS qualified tuition for all stages and ages. We are also an accredited Pony Club Member Centre.

Originally a dairy farm, Over Dalkeith Stables has been turned into a riding school and livery yard. Based in 44 acres of Perthshire countryside, the riding school is located conveniently close to Edinburgh and Glasgow close to the foothills of the Ochils in central Scotland's glorious scenic heartland.

At Over Dalkeith Stables we are proud of what we do and the horses we have. Everyone here believes passsionately in horses and horse riding. We believe that as a sport, horse riding can be of huge benefit, both physically and mentally. As well as physical exercise, riding provides a useful form of stress release in todays busy world. When you borrow a horse you borrow freedom. We believe that everyone should try horse riding as a pleasure/leisure activity, hobby or sport.

The most important thing to us is that you start because every journey starts with a single step and who knows, your journey may take you to Badminton and beyond.

We decided after living here for six years to embark on a stable building programme. We have never found anyone that could actually deliver the type of stables that we wanted. So when we met Ewan from Thistle Stables we were really excited at the prospect of getting a completely bespoke build tailored to our exact requirements. He was also able to offer lots of usefule advice and point out tactfully things that just would not work. He has also added things that we would never have dreamed of (like the arched windows to give the horses a view). He was even able to put up with us changing our minds and not always knowing what we wanted. The end result has been a conversion of an old useless barn into a smart blue block of four new stables which are so truly gorgeous we can't bare to put a horse inside them.

If anyone would like to come and look around our stables to see the quality and finish of the work then please feel free to call and we will happily show you around like the proud new owners that we are. Random strangers will not then need to be dragged off the streets to admire them.
