Kyle Carter - Five Ring Stables
Kyle Carter grew up riding on a farm in Calgary, Alberta and never parted ways with the horse-centered lifestyle. While his family`s involvement in racing was pivotal to his initial interest in horses, Kyle found his own interest in a different discipline and show jumped through his junior career at Spruce Meadows. Between his exposure to his family`s racing business and having personally competed in both show jumping and three day eventing, Kyle had a very well rounded start in the equestrian world. When Kyle turned 18 he decided to follow his passion and focus his efforts solely on three day eventing. Like all accomplished athletes, Kyle`s dedication to the sport was a crucial contributor to his advancement and success, but dedication alone does not make an exceptional equestrian. Since day one Kyle has sought to understand his horse`s point of view and continues to focus his efforts on creating a partnership between horse and rider that is founded on mutual trust and constant communication. As Kyle sees it, partnership is the most basic element of success at any level of eventing, and it is increasingly essential at the upper levels to ensure the safety of both horse and rider.Kyle spent 1988-1989 in England working with 2004 Olympic Gold Medalist Leslie Law, who remains a close friend and mentor. After returning to the United States, Kyle made his debut at the Advanced level in 1991 and has since produced several horses to the top level. After marrying in July 1997, Kyle and his wife Jennifer purchased their current farm in Ocala, Florida and named it “Five Ring Stable” after Kyle`s lifelong dream of representing Canada in the Olympic Games. In 1999, Kyle made a name for himself when he placed 2nd at Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event CCI*** on Michael and Elaine Davies` horse Scotia Goldrush. In 2005, Kyle began his partnership with his steadfast competition horse Madison Park, the horse with whom his Olympic dream would become a reality. The namesake of the Carter`s farm was brought to life in 2008, when Kyle and Madison Park were selected as members of the Canadian Olympic Team. Competing in Hong Kong, Kyle and Madison Park had one of the best cross country rounds of the day. Other four star events Kyle has competed in include Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event (`08, `09, `10), Burghley Horse Trials (`09), and the World Equestrian Games (`10) where Kyle and his Canadian teammates became WEG Silver Medalists.
In addition to his personal riding pursuits, Kyle is also a sought after coach for riders at every level, from novice to four star. He has been the Area III NAJYRC Coach since 2002, where his CCI** teams have had three Gold Medal wins in addition to several individual and team medals at both the CCI* and CCI** levels. Most recently, Kyle led the CCI** team to a Gold Medal win in 2010. Kyle has also served as the Guatemalan Pan American Team Coach for the past 2 years. On a personal level, Kyle has coached the Intermediate Amateur High point rider, Preliminary Amateur High Point Rider, and 1995 Markham Trophy Winner (awarded to the highest placed Young Rider at a CCI*** Championship). Kyle is also a Level IV ICP coach in the US, a Level III Certified Coach in Canada, and he sits on the Coaching Faculty for Canada.
