Coat-X spray-on Polyurea protective coating
Coat-X is a spray on protective coating or liner to replace liquid rubber floor, horsebox rubber floor mats, horsebox ramp carpet, trailer floor matting, GRP on van ply lining , specialising in protective coating for waterproofing, grip, durability and decorative finishes - call us today on 01772860150The process is very simple whether it’s a horsebox floor, horsebox ramp or coating a van ply liner. Firstly we mask up the whole area to protect from overspray, our staff are fully trained sprayers so this is usual practice for them. The area to be covered is sanded and cleaned off, painted with a primer and when that has dried we spray the whole area in Coat-X. This is done by mixing 2 components, Coat-X R (resin) with Coat-X H (hardener) through especially designed dispensing equipment having accurate metering pumps for the two components. The surface is touch dry in 10 seconds. We then strip the masking off and clean up. Turnaround of work is very quick because of the touch dry nature of our product. The finished surface looks and feels very similar to rubber mats or a rubber floor but in fact are a quality Polyurea or (PU)

Coat-X to replace ramp carpets and heavy rubber mats as a horsebox floor
After 30 years of manufacturing Quality horseboxes and motor sport boxes we kept having the same issues. Rubber floor sheets or rubber mats on the horse area walls expands with heat and they look unsightly, the fixing screws also look bad and are a weak point for water ingress. Liquid rubber or granulistic rubber on the horse area floors looks good at first but is too heavy and shrinks with age letting water underneath. Rubber horse mats on the horse area floor, again are too heavy and move, they also need removing to dry underneath. Rubber matting on a horsebox ramp is a major problem too, they are very heavy and hard to seal, they need capping all the way around and again this is more weight and another place for water to get in. Carpet on the horsebox ramp has the same problems as a rubber mat but with the added disadvantage of only lasting a couple of seasons. Because of the exceptional needs of horsebox owners we could see the need for a new solution. Horses pose a unique problem; they place large amounts of weight on a relatively small area and need to feel confident that they will not slip on the way up the ramp. If they are worried from previous slips it becomes a major loading problem, very stressful and dangerous for both horse and owner. With one product Coat-X has solved all these problems whilst at the same time increasing the quality of our builds. We give a two year warranty on all our horseboxes and have to be confident that the products we use will last and look good for years to come. Coat-X testing
We tested many ramp surfaces with various finishes and with over 30 years of experience within the horsebox manufacturing industry we knew what our customers wanted. Existing ramp coverings ranged from carpet to heavy rubber mats. However these coverings are problematic when wet, water makes them slippery and it always finds a way under them; this not only makes the ramp heavier and heavier but also starts rust on any steel or aluminium. When you consider the amount of commitment involved in owning a horse one of the most important decisions must be the finish in the horse area and on the ramp! We have used polyurea spray as a coating in our horseboxes for many years and this has been a real test of the product. This is a tried and tested system and a very versatile coating product. It offers corrosion resistance, waterproofing with the added benefits of abrasion protection and sound proofing and saves customers lifting out heavy rubber mats. It removes the need for gluing or screwing kick sheet or rubber mats into the horse area and tptaly removes the need for heavy rubber floor matting. Because Coat-X is sprayed over the whole ramp surface, walls and floor in the horse area it is completely waterproof. Our granules in the top surface allow grip whilst letting water run underneath. This is the same idea as the tread in tyres that remove water. The finish is extremely neat and looks like new after each power washing or steam cleaning. After our initial tests we were so confident in the increased grip of our product we commissioned an independent test from Grip Potential Ltd (expert independent slip risk assessment) Here is a summary of a ten page report.
Independent slip test to BS 7976-2
Grip Potential Ltd, independent slip testing experts, tested "Coat-X" and a standard rubber mat side by side for slip resistance to BS 7976-2, the HSE's preferred slip test method. "Coat-X" clearly provided an increased resistance to slipping in water wet conditions compared to a standard mat. "Coat-X" achieved a Pendulum Test Value (PTV) of 44 in the wet, comfortably falling within the 'Low risk of slip' category as determined by the HSE, whilst the standard mat achieved a PTV of 29, falling within the 'Moderate risk of slip' category. The risk of a slip occurring drops exponentially with an increase in PTV, such that the "Coat-X" is far less likely to cause a slip than the standard matting. Dry test results for both surfaces fell comfortably within the 'Low risk of slip' category as expected.

Example - speaker box project
These two example pictures of a customer’s speaker box project show the versatility of our Coat-X spray-on protective coating. They show a speaker box both before and after spraying with Coat-X and should give an idea of what we can do. The left picture shows the customer’s speaker box project sanded down, masked and painted in a primer ready for spraying in our Coat-X Polyurea protective spray. The large picture below shows the finished article ready for the electronics and speakers fitted. Once sprayed this box was ready to build up after just minutes.

I use Coat-X for the external finish on my premium range of EAD bass guitar speakers - http://www.extendedaudiodesign.co.uk
I had tried a number of alternative products and had very poor results due to poor product and poor application. Finish and durability are of utmost importance and the Coat-X product fits the bill perfectly. Kevin's approach was first class and has worked with me closely to obtain the ideal solution to what is a tricky job to carry out. The staff clearly have a deep knowledge of alternate application methods and the results speak for themselves. Turnaround time has been very quick allowing me to move things on with minimal delays. Final finish of any product is what will generally sets it apart from the competition and having had such poor experiences with other products, its great to know that I can rely on Coat-X to deliver the goods.

The uses of Coat-X are limited only by the imagination of the user. New applications are continually being developed. We have used it to protect from water, urine, disinfectants, replacing rubber mats, rubber flooring for fairground rides, garden seats, boats, dog kennels, wet rooms, horse stables, horse trailer mats, cow cubicle mats, play area mats, areas that need constant washing down, spraying as a vehicle liner - the list goes on! When first looking for a spray-on protective coating or liner customers often search for ‘spray-on rubber coating’ or ‘liquid rubber coating’ Coat-X is similar in many ways to rubber, but is actually a PU or Polyurea with many more advantages and none of the disadvantages.
