Central Regional Championships at Addington Manor
Last week, Addington Manor played host to the Central region's best dressage combinations, all competing for a place at the Espayo National Dressage Championships in September. It proved a good couple of days for the Eilbergs, in particular Maria, who won the Winergy Prix St Georges and the Dressage International Inter I with U-Rockstar. The 10-year-old Jazz gelding, owned by Camilla Anderson, scored 71.10% in the Prix St Georges and 68.25% in the Inter I.
Michael Eilberg also recorded a win in the Dressage Deluxe Medium Open with Julie Deverill's Half Moon Dynasty on a score of 73.33%. The 8-year-old black mare is half-sister to Michael's Grand Prix ride, Half Moon Delphi. It was a close class, with second placed Peter Storr and Sirius Black less than 1% behind. Only 0.09% separated third placed Ben Martin and Dimaggik from fourth placed Matt Hicks and El Zorro. However, the top four combinations all head to Stoneleigh.
Olympic rider Laura Bechtolsheimer also made an appearance at Addington, just days prior to her trip to Greenwich. She rode her father's 8-year-old Polar Bear to victory in the Suregrow Advanced Medium Open with a great score of 74.65%. The up-and-coming gelding is by Polarion, the horse that Laura rode in her junior and young rider career. A total of four riders qualified in the class, all scoring over 70%. Spencer Wilton and Zamboucca were second, Daniel Greenwood and Woodward in third with Sarah Millis and Furst Rubin fourth.
Ben Martin also qualified Dimaggik in the Stretch and Flex Elementary Open by taking third place. It was a close call for first and second place, but Peta Claridge and Costello scored 70.31% and just pipped Lucy Cartwright and Fergana (70.10%) to the top spot.
In the Dodson & Horrell Novice Open, Garry Williams posted a great score of 74.14% to win the class with his own Sternelfe, a 6-year-old Westfalian mare by Sir Donnerhall. Amy Pugh and Vignoles Gambit took second place. Ami McLean with her own Premier Royal Mint and Caroline Sparks with Bravour took third and fourth place respectively and just 0.58% separated them.
In the restricted classes, Rachael Clark and her own Urionetta were winners of the Suregrow Advanced Medium on 67.02%. Claire Abel and Rowan Magic also qualified for a trip to the Nationals by taking second place. In the Dressage Deluxe Medium, Sadie Smith and the Furst Heinrich gelding Fascinato were winners on 68.47%, just ahead of Emily Carmichael and Wolkenlos on 68.02%. The third qualifier from the class was Emma Brooks and Zimbral.
Giselle Hyland and her 6-year-old Sandro Hit mare Bon Ami II took first place in the Stretch and Flex Elementary Restricted. Rose Hugh-Smith and Holsteins Derwisch squeezed into second place just 0.10% ahead of Lauren Darby and Mister Samson. All three combinations qualified for Stoneleigh.
